CBS Green Lights ‘Mother’ For Two More Seasons

Fan speculation that the hit series HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was fizzling out may be premature:  CBS has given a green light to two more seasons of the Monday night comedy, extending it through May of 2013.

It’s possible that the move was done to lock in current Monday night hits, in case the troubled TWO AND A HALF MEN isn’t ready to begin production in time for the start of next season; but the deal is similar to a three-year extension CBS granted Thursday night comedy BIG BANG THEORY.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler praised the show’s producing team whom she says “continues to find inventive ways to tell funny stories that stir pop culture conversation” and calls it a “go-to destination” for top guest stars.

Tassler also says the ensemble brings life to characters that audiences “want to hang out with every Monday night.”

In addition to being a ratings success, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has also earned critical acclaim and award recognition. Neil Patrick Harris has earned four consecutive Emmy Award nominations for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series,” while the series was nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series” in 2009.  Harris was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2009 and 2010 in the category of “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.”

The show was also nominated by the Television Critics Association for “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy” and Harris was nominated for “Individual Achievement in Comedy” in 2009, and is the recipient of several People’s Choice Awards nominations.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders and airs Monday nights at 8:00pm on LIVE 5 WCSC.

Could Jennifer Lopez be the woman for Ted?

Okay, that’s probably a major stretch, but we’ve confirmed that the star will appear on an episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER to air in March.

Lopez will play Anita Appleby, a no-nonsense author of self-help books that teach women how to train men into relationship machines through the power of denial. When Robin tells Anita how Barney acts toward women, she makes it her mission to “break” him. Continue reading

CBS Orders More ‘Mom’

It looks like Ted will have another year to find the woman he’s meant to marry.

On the heels of posting its season high in ratings, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has been given the green light for a sixth season, CBS says.

Last week, the comedy was first in adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and tied for first in adults 18-34. All of these groups are considered very important to advertisers.

The series is set in present day, but told as flashbacks narrated from the future, as the Ted character, played by Josh Radnor, explains to his child (or is it children?) how he managed to meet their mom.

Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders also star.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER airs Mondays at 8:00pm on LIVE 5 WCSC.
