CBS has pulled the plug on seven of its lower-performing prime time shows, TV Wrap reports.
The least surprising cancellation is that of NUMB3RS, whose fate has been in question for some time. One of the lead actors went on to appear in a different show for a different network, leading many to speculate that the end of NUMB3RS was already a done deal.
COLD CASE and GHOST WHISPERER were also canceled, though MEDIUM was spared.
The network’s newest series, MIAMI MEDICAL, will also not find a home on the fall schedule.
As for sitcoms, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE won’t be back, which means that Billie’s baby delivery, which wrapped up the season earlier this month, will also be the way the series ends.
Wednesday sitcoms THE OLD ADVENTURES OF NEW CHRISTINE and GARY UNMARRIED were also let go. The cancellation of CHRISTINE represents a double whammy for co-star Wanda Sykes, since her nighttime show was just canceled by the Fox network.
CBS will officially announce its fall lineup tomorrow. Don’t forget to come back to the Live 5 Insider for details.
Here’s tonight’s prime time buzz:
Tonight at 8:00: Christine begins seeing a therapist who shares office space with Matthew, although it’s unclear to both whether to pursue therapy or romance, on THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE.

Some changes are coming to the prime time lineup over the next few months.
The first involves CBS’s hit Monday night lineup. Beginning March 1st, the freshman comedy ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, starring Jenna Elfman as a thirty-something who winds up pregnant after a one-night fling, will be taking a few weeks off. In its 8:30pm time slot, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT will make a return.
Then on Wednesday, March 31st, with GARY UNMARRIED, the Jay Mohr comedy, having completed its season order, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE will return to the schedule, taking Gary’s 8:30pm slot.
Two nights later, on Friday, April 2nd, NUMB3RS will be replaced by MIAMI MEDICAL. That’s the latest show from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who’s the man behind the CSI empire. There’s no official, definitive word on the fate of NUMB3RS, although the show will have completed its season order by then.
If you’re a fan of NUMB3RS, the good news for now is that you still have a few months of the show left. So be sure to keep watching.
On the brand new CBS show, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, actress Jenna Elfman portrays a woman in her late thirties who’s having a baby.
In real life, the same thing seems to be happening.
Elfman told THE EARLY SHOW‘s Julie Chen that she and her husband are expecting their second child. But unlike her TV character, this baby-to-be isn’t an accident.
“My character’s pregnant the whole first season, so I said, ‘It’s a good time to have another baby, because we won’t have to hide it,'” Elfman said.
Congratulations to the couple and to the cast and company of ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, which premieres tonight at 8:30pm on LIVE 5 WCSC.
ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is a comedy starring Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, a single woman who finds herself “accidentally” pregnant after a one-night stand with a much younger guy, and decides to keep the baby… and the guy.
A newspaper film critic, Billie is barely surviving a humiliating breakup with her charming boss, James (Grant Show), who’s still trying to resume their relationship. Suddenly expecting a child with her “boy toy,” Zack (Jon Foster), Billie and Zack make an arrangement: to live together platonically. Billie’s party girl best friend Olivia (Ashley Jensen), and Abby (Lennon Parham), her conventional, younger married sister, eagerly look forward to the new addition and offer their own brands of advice and encouragement. But when Zack and his freeloading friends, including Davis (Nicolas Wright), start to turn her place into a frat house, Billie isn’t sure if she’s living with a boyfriend, a roommate, or if she just has another child to raise.
ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE will air Mondays at 8:30pm on LIVE 5 WCSC. To go behind the scenes on this new comedy, click here.
