Fan speculation that the hit series HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was fizzling out may be premature: CBS has given a green light to two more seasons of the Monday night comedy, extending it through May of 2013.
It’s possible that the move was done to lock in current Monday night hits, in case the troubled TWO AND A HALF MEN isn’t ready to begin production in time for the start of next season; but the deal is similar to a three-year extension CBS granted Thursday night comedy BIG BANG THEORY.
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler praised the show’s producing team whom she says “continues to find inventive ways to tell funny stories that stir pop culture conversation” and calls it a “go-to destination” for top guest stars.
Tassler also says the ensemble brings life to characters that audiences “want to hang out with every Monday night.”
In addition to being a ratings success, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has also earned critical acclaim and award recognition. Neil Patrick Harris has earned four consecutive Emmy Award nominations for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series,” while the series was nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series” in 2009. Harris was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2009 and 2010 in the category of “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.”
The show was also nominated by the Television Critics Association for “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy” and Harris was nominated for “Individual Achievement in Comedy” in 2009, and is the recipient of several People’s Choice Awards nominations.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders and airs Monday nights at 8:00pm on LIVE 5 WCSC.
