Singer/choreographer Paula Abdul is returning to reality TV in a new CBS series, LIVE TO DANCE, premiering Tuesday, January 4th at 8:00pm on LIVE 5 WCSC.
The series will kickoff with one of the biggest talent searches ever on TV and a two-hour premiere. The following night, the series will move to its permanent home of Wednesdays at 8:00pm.
Abdul, who was a popular judge on Fox’s American Idol from 2002 until 2009, will serve as the lead expert and mentor for dancers across the country. She is also the show’s executive producer.
On the premiere, dancers will audition for Abdul and the series’ other dancing experts in specially-constructed Dance Domes built in New York and Los Angeles. At the end of the premiere episode, dancers of various styles, backgrounds and ages will be selected as members of the cast. A second group of dancers the experts think deserve a second look will have one last chance to be part of the competition in a dance-off.
When the final cast is in place, there will be a total of 18 dance acts that will compete against each other in groups of six with two teams advancing. When the final six acts are selected, they will compete for a $500,000 top prize.
Abdul will be joined by experts Travis Payne and Kimberly Wyatt, both of whom bring an extensive dance and choreography resume to the series. Andrew Günsberg is host of the series. Günsberg, a native of Australia, previously hosted the Aussie version of American Idol.
